

Given that this is essentially the process that seems to have caused your issue in the first place, I don't have a lot of hope that this will fix things, but this is what Canon recommends as a first step.

If troubleshooting a communication issue, reconnect the data cable (not applicable to WiFi, Bluetooth or Infrared).

If you aren't sure of what you're listening for, you can hear the sound effects as follows: You should hear the two-tone "Device connect" sound. With the printer connected to your computer, turn off the printer. In my reply to your question about "offline" status, I asked if you hear the sound effects when you connect the printer. I suspect that's why the troubleshooter wants you to set the Fax functionality of the device as the default printer. It seems that for some reason, Windows is having a problem communicating with your printer. I've never found the Windows "troubleshooters" to be particularly helpful.
